Jacqui Percious

jacqui perciousLife to me is a grand adventure with all kinds of ups and downs and learning experiences.

I believe that my life and career encounters with diet, nutrition and exercise, along with certification from the T. Colin Campbell Foundation under the auspices of Cornell University in Plant Based Nutrition have put me in a position to be able to share the how’s and why’s of living a healthy lifestyle.

Freedom from pain, medication, overweight, and major diseases has given me the chance to live a lovely long and vibrant life.

It seems that the majority of Americans expect to be full of diseases, having operations, taking all kinds of pills, living in a nursing home or worse, and having an altogether horrible time when they arrive at their “Golden Years.”

I don’t expect or want any part of this. And, you don’t have to either.

My young life was spent in sports, everything from water skiing on the Florida Southern College Team, to being one of the two stars of the College Circus.

The only thing I really cared about was getting up on those skiis and competing with other colleges and universities. We did very well.

Later, after attending Northwestern University and then becoming a photographer’s model for the Connie and Al Seaman Agency in Chicago, I moved back to Florida, eventually going to work for the Miami Model’s Bureau.

A long series of events followed, with me eventually ending up in Tucson, Arizona, and becoming a disc jockey for a local radio station. I started attending the University of Arizona as an art student.

While we were in Puerto Rico I went to work on Ramey Air Force Base running a Teen Club so my daughter, Wendi, could attend the Base’s school.

That didn’t work, but I was able to get my diving certification and WSI (Water Safety Instructor.) This would be a Godsend when we returned to Tucson.

After a year and a half in Puerto Rico we thought it was time to move someplace else. Had some frinds who owned a sailboat who invited us to live on her as long as we would like. Down we went to St. Thomas, V.I.

We spent well over a year living on the boat, diving, sailing and being vegetarians. Great fun for everyone but we thought we should return to the States so Wendi could have a “proper” education.

This is really where the Dynamic Health Now started in ernest for me. I found a position working as a swim instructor for the YMCA of Tucson, Arizona. From Swimming Instructor I moved into the position of Program Director and then into the position of Executive Director of the Mulcahy YMCA.

The YMCA is all about Mind, Body and Spirit. It all goes together and the importance of exercise is especially stressed. I stressed not only exercise but the importance of a good diet to all our members.

I currently live in San Carlos Mexico most of the time and the States part of the time. We have a gorgeous organic garden for a good seven months of the year.

I spend my time consulting with people on their lifestyle changes. I not only cook a plant based program for people but help them learn how to cook new and exciting foods for themselves.

I hear again and again…”Oh, I could never eat like that.” But people do change if they want to live a long and vibrant life. You don’t have to do it all at once but do it you must if you care enough about yourself. The time is NOW!

It was such a pleasure meeting you yesterday; your words filled me with hope and inspiration. I’m excited to share you blog with my mom so she too can gain inspiration. The few health problems (such as debilitating menstrual cramps) I had before I went vegan are now completely gone. That one day once a month was the only day I ever took a pill, and now I am completely medicine-free! I feel like I met a kindred spirit when I met you. Thank you.

  • Jacqui,

Thank you so much for your interest in a link exchange. I just wanted to take time to drop a personal note. I’m really ejoying your website and am sure I’ll link to it, probably for your information on GMOs or maybe the vegan recipes.

I also wanted to say a special hello to a fellow Northwestern-ite/Northwestern-er(?) class of ’91. I loved reading your “about me” page, you seem to have had such an interesting, diverse, and experience-rich path.

A friend shared the info about Cornell’s plant-based nutrition progam and I may consider that in the future. I might like to pick your brain about it in the future, if you wouldn’t mind.

Once I’ve linked yur site, I’ll email you the details. Have a great day!

I look forward to our link exchange. Just let me know. I will send you info for my site as well.
I think you would really enjoy Cornell’s plant-based nutrition program. You might want to get a head start and
read The China Study by Colin Campbell.
      Have a great day.
      Jacqui

  • Thanks. The China Study is actually the next major thing on my reading list. Saw a couple of documentarites that referenced if, including Forks Over Knives (I think).

  • I think you will enjoy The China Study immensely. I’m quite sure it was referenced in Forks Over Knives. Also, Dr. Colin Campbell has a newsletter and so does Dr. John McDougall.
    Happy reading!

    Hello Jacqui;
I’m wondering if you have some good suggestions for a niece of mine who has been told just recently that she has cancer. It started in the uterus & she has a cancerous tumor on a ovary. She is going in for big surgery on Monday Sept.17th.The surgeon is taking out everything. She had a full body scan done & the surgeon said it had not spread. He of course has to wait to get the results back about the lymp nodes. I heard that sugar makes cancer grow.I am wondering if there is any truth to that. She is eating lots of fresh vegetables & fruits when she can eat.
I would appreciate your reply so much.
    Sincerely Daphne

    • Jacqui says:

      Dear Daphne,
I am so very sorry to hear about your niece. I am not a doctor but I have studied diet and lifestyle extensively. I would suggest you read a couple of books which I will offer in a minute. Cancer is a very big business. If one looks at how the cancer cell grows and how long it takes to be able to see anything or feel any kind of a lump, no matter now small one finds it quite amazing. The transformation of a normal cell to a cancer cell is caused by some kind of injury, toxic chemical or the like. The cancer cell divides into two cells in around 100 days…this goes on and on with the doubling of cell every 100 days more or less. After a year or so as few as few as 12 cancerous cells have gathered together and are totally impossible to see. After around 6 years the lump contains about one million cells. At this point the cancer lump is about the size of a pencil dot. At this point cancer cells have broken out of the original lump and entered the neighboring blood vessels. According to Dr. John McDougall this happens in more than 90% of cases. These cells can now start new tumors wherever they lodge. The doubling goes on and after about 10 years the original tumor is about the size of a marble and the doctors talk about “getting it in time.”
The books I would suggest you read are McDougall’s Medicine–A Challenging Second Opinion and a book called Knockout by Suzanne Somers. I only recommend Knockout because most of the doctors mentioned are working with diet and getting some very good results.
I would look in Google for your answer to sugar feeding cancer. I believe it does. I also understand that normal cells need oxygen while cancerous cells despise oxygen. I believe that any animal products are bad and certainly not helpful to your niece or to you for that matter. It’s wonderful that she’s eating fresh vegetables and fruits when she can eat. Try and make all those veggies and fruits organic. No matter what the cancer it’s extremely important to change to a healthier diet. This has a two fold purpose…to keep your niece as healthy as possible and to withstand the debilitating side effects of any proposed treatments.
I hope while all this is going on you don’t neglect yourself. It’s important!
